In official meetings or events (court trials, weddings, general meetings or meetings at a notary's office) it is crucial to have reliable and experienced court interpreters. The interpreter must be able to quickly and accurately translate speech from one language to another, which requires not only perfect knowledge of both languages, but also the ability to analyse and synthesise information instantly.
What qualifications must a court interpreter meet?
A court interpreter is a professionally qualified person registered in the list of interpreters and translators maintained by the Ministry of Justice, who is authorised to interpret in courtrooms, police interrogations, notarial acts and other situations where precise communication between speakers of different languages is required. In the Czech Republic, this profession is regulated by Act No. 36/1967 Coll., which defines the requirements for both court interpreters and court translators, the latter of whom specialise in the written translation of legal documents.
